Activated-carbon filters generally do not create a continuous drain stream, but the carbon eventually requires replacement. Sediment cartridges also become solid waste. If a performance claim matters to the purchase, ask whether the exact model carries an independent certification for that claim and verify the listing with the certifying organization.
Certification of a product is different from a technician’s professional credential. Ask which organization issued any credential, what it covers and whether it remains current. Also ask who will perform plumbing and electrical work and what permits or inspections may apply to the proposed installation.
Read warranties in layers. The tank, valve, membrane, electronics and labor may have different coverage periods. Find out whether routine maintenance is required to preserve coverage, who pays for a service visit and whether warranty support depends on the original dealer remaining in business.
